About Alison Chase Performance

Alison Chase Performance is a touring program of Apogee Arts, a new dance theater production company focused on developing dramatic forms of physical expression and expanding the dance audience. The mission of Alison Chase Performance is to combine innovative choreography, dance training, performance and educational programs to create an experience that engages and informs audiences in unusual performance spaces. Alison Chase Performance will bring dance performance and education to new communities throughout Maine, New England, and beyond.

Innovative art and accessible production define Apogee Art's work. Led by Alison Chase, founder of Pilobolus Dance theater and acclaimed choreographer, Alison Chase Performance draws upon a network of recognized dancers, composers, and designers to create work that is technically efficient and portable, and also allows for, and responds to, community participation. Blending imaginative repertoire and accessible production, Apogee Art's productions can be presented in a wide variety of venues -- surprising outdoor locations, school gymnasiums, festival tents, community halls, and traditional proscenium theaters. Alison Chase Performance combines dance, theater, video, music, and location to create a refreshing and unexpected experience for both first-time and seasoned audiences.

Workshops for teachers, students and/or the public accompany each engagement and allow the audience to experience dance from an inside, creative, process -orientated perspective. Alison Chase tailors the educational programs to the needs of each presenter.

The purpose of Alison Chase Performance is to build a new constituency for dance and to enhance dance appreciation by the next generation. Through imaginative repertory and accessible production we are excited at the prospect of new work for a new audience.
